DAY 1
Transfer from Marrakech to Imlil
After arrival in Marrakech, you will be transferred to the village of Imlil (1740m), the principal trailhead for treks in the Toubkal Region. Here you will have the opportunity to explore the local area, including the banks of the Aït Mizane Valley and its side valleys, spending the night in a comfortable Berber lodge. 1.5 hours transfer, approximately.
DAY 2
Walk from Imlil to Refuge les Mouflons
Today you will meet your mule team and, once all your gear is loaded, we begin your trek. Heading south along the Aït Mizane Valley, we pass by the village of Aremd (1960m) and then continue along mule tracks which steadily climb up rocky cliffs, at times rising high above the valley. Descending once more to cross the river, we arrive at the isolated shrine of Sidi Chamharouch (2310m), which attracts devoted pilgrims from both near and far. From here the trail steadily climbs again, snaking its way upwards towards the snowline and the renowned Refuge les Mouflons (3207m). We will either sleep in the refuge or camp outside, depending on the season. 4 to 5 hours walking, approximately.
DAY 3
Climb to the summit of Jebel Toubkal and then walk back down to Imlil. Transfer back to Marrakech
We should make an early start to our attempt on the summit of Jebel Toukbal (4167m). After crossing the stream above the refuge, our route leads upwards through the south cirque. Although the walking is relatively straightforward, the scree and altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. However, the views along the way are quite spectacular and when we reach the summit we will be rewarded with breath-taking, unrestricted views in every direction, as far as to the Haouz Plain in the north and to the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the fringes of the Sahara Desert in the south. From the summit, it will be necessary to retrace our steps, returning down the mountainside and heading back to Imlil. Transfer back to Marrakech. 9 hours walking and 1.5 hours transfer, approximately.
