DAY 1
Transfer from Marrakech to Imi Ouglad and walk to Gliz
Your driver will meet you at your accommodation and transfer you from Marrakech to Imi Ouglad village (1300m) in about 1 hour and 15 mins. There you will meet your mule and muleteer. First we will walk to Tizi l’bour (1500m), on to Imsker village (1300m) and finally up the Ousertik valley to Gliz village. Here we spend the night in a local village gite (2200m).
5 to 6 hours walking.
DAY 2
Walk from Gliz to Tacheddirt
Today we walk from Gliz to Oukaimeden (2500m), climbing to cross to Tizi n‘Addi (3000m), and then descending to Tacheddirt (2300m) where you will spend the night. Tacheddirt is one of the very highest villages in the Atlas Mountains.
5 hours walking.
DAY 3
Walk from Tacheddirt to Imlil
Today we cross the Imenane Valley, one of the most famous valleys in the Toubkal massif. We trek over Tizi n’Tamatert (2300m) to reach Imlil where we spend the night.
3 to 4 hours walking.
Walk from Imlil to Refuge les Mouflons
Heading along the Mizane Valley, we first pass the village of Aremd. We then continue eastwards and, by crossing the flood plains, our route takes us along mule tracks up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley. Crossing the river, we eventually come to the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims from near and far. From here the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the snowline and finally the refuge, Refuge les Mouflons (3206m) where we spend the night.
5 hours walking.
Ascend to the summit of Jebel Toubkal and return to Refuge les Mouflons
Early in the morning we make our attempt on the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. That said, the views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile. When you reach the summit you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breath-taking. There are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. We will retrace our steps, returning back down the mountain and spend a second night in the refuge.
5 hours walking.
DAY 6
Walk from Refuge les Mouflons to Imlil and transfer back to Marrakach
Today we head back towards Imlil. After arrival back in Imlil you will transfer back to Marrakech.
4 hours walking and about 1 hour 15 minutes transfer.
