DAY 1
Transfer from El Kelaa des Mgouna to Aït Youle and walk to Le Merse
We transfer from El Kelaa des Mgouna, crossing the Oued Dades, to reach the village of Aït Youle. We begin our trek, ascending the outlying slopes of Jebel Sahro to reach the remote camping spot of Le Merse where we spend the night in tents close by a well. 6 to 7 hours walking, approximately.
DAY 2
Le Merse to Assaka n’Aït Ouzzine
Continue to climb from Le Merse to cross Tizi n’Tagmout (1800m) before descending first to the hamlet of Tagmout and then onwards to the village of Assaka n’Aït Ouzzine (1584m). We camp on the outskirts of the village. 5 hours walking, approximately.
DAY 3
Assaka n’Aït Ouzzine to Irhissi
Walk from Assaka n’Aït Ouzzine, climbing gently to round the impressive mountain of Tine Ouaiyour before descending through the surreal Irhissi Gorge. We arrive at the dispersed village of Irhssi (1625m) where we camp for the night by the shell of a dilapidated kasbah. 3 hours walking, approximately.
DAY 4
Irhissi to Igli
From Irhissi, we rise gently along a dramatic path that has been cut directly into the cliff face until it drops again to the village of Riche. We climb once more, this time more steeply, to reach the green oasis of Igli, surrounded by wonderful natural rock formations. We sleep the night in this natural amphitheatre. 6 to 7 hours walking, approximately.
DAY 5
Igli to Irhazzoun n’Imlas
We walk from Igli to Boilouz (1525m) and then on through the jumble of the Oufourar Gorge to emerge at the twin rock towers of Bab n’Ali, considered by many to be the jewel of Sahro. We continue as far as Irhazzoun n’Imlas and camp on the edge of the village. 5 to 6 hours walking, approximately.
DAY 6
Irhazzoun n’Imlas to Nekob
We walk from Irhazzoun n’Imlas through the Assif Hanedour Valley as far as the village of Hanedour itself with its picturesque, dilapidated kasbah. From here we transfer to Nekob (1039m), renowned as the town of the 40 kasbahs. 4 hours walking and I hour transfer, approximately.
