DAY 1
Transfer from Marrakech to Imlil and walk to Azib ‘n Tamsoult
Your driver will collect you from your accommodation in Marrakech and transfer you to Imlil (1740m) from where you start your trek, crossing over from the Aït Mizane Valley into the Azzadene Valley via the mountain pass of Tizi Mzik (2489m). We then ascend again to the refuge at Azib n’Tamsoult (2250m), just below the Ighouliden Waterfalls, where we spend the night.
5 hours walking.
DAY 2
Walk from Azib ‘n Tamsoult to Toubkal refuges
Today involves a fairly strenuous climb out of the Azzadene Valley over Tizi Aguelzim mountain pass (3520m) to the Toubkal refuges. Lunch will be taken with spectacular views across the Atlas Mountains. We either spend the night in Refuge les Mouflons or close by in our tents.
7 hours walking.
DAY 3
Walk from Toubkal refuges to Toubkal summit and back to Imlil
Early in the morning, we make your attempt on the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa. After crossing the stream above the refuge, our route takes us up the south cirque. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the going quite difficult in parts. The views along the way, however, make the journey more than worthwhile. When you reach the summit, you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breath-taking. From here there are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Haouz Plain and the High Atlas in the north, to the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara away to the south. We then retrace our steps down the mountain and head back to Imlil, where we meet our vehicle. Transfer back to Marrakech.
8 to 9 hours walking plus 90 minutes transfer.
